Hay, 2011
May 26th, 2011
To give it its full title, The Hay Festival of Literature and Arts will be held this year between Friday 27th May – Sunday 5th June. Devised by father and son Norman and Peter Florence in 1988, Hay was once memorably described by Bill Clinton as “The Woodstock of the mind”.
Until recently the festival was held at a variety of venues around the picturesque borders town of Hay-on-Wye, including the local Primary School, but it 2005 it moved to a single location just outside town.
This year’s headline guests include Nobel Laureates VS Naipaul, JMG le Clezio, Paul Nurse and Mohammed El Baradei, historians Eric Hobsbawm, Michael Wood, Bettany Hughes and Niall Ferguson, broadcasters Chris Evans, Jenni Murray, Kevin McCloud and Evan Davis, actors Vanessa Redgrave, Ralph Fiennes, Rob Lowe, Gillian Anderson and Simon Russell Beale, and writers Paul Theroux, Linda Grant, Malorie Blackman, Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson.
Champagne Bollinger are proud sponsors of the Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction, just one of the many awards presented at the prestigious literary event.
Bollinger will be covering the festival with daily blog posts and Tweets, delivering the latest news from Hay as it happens.
