Challenge Series for Gentleman Amateur Riders
September 2nd, 2010
September 2010 sees the last of the Bollinger sponsored Amateur Racing events of the year, with races being held at three of the country’s best known flat racing venues.
Bollinger revived the idea of a Flat series, restricted to male amateur riders – at the time an endangered species – some 16 years ago. Since then it has acted as something of a nursery ground for some of the finest jockey’s on the professional flat racing circuit.
Simon Walker, four time winner of the Bollinger Challenge Series for Gentlemen Amateur Riders, is famously quoted as saying: “It is what all male amateurs aspire to win”.
With races to be held at Goodwood, Chester and Ascot consecutively, the end of the season promises to be an exciting one.
The 7th September race takes place at Goodwood, the flat-racing track renowned for its beautiful surroundings and set against the backdrop of the Sussex Downs. The Bollinger sponsored event is the nineteenth of the twenty three race days in the Goodwood racing calendar for 2010.
The Bollinger sponsored Amateur handicap race held at Chester racecourse on the 10th September this year offers the winner six thousand pounds. The race is open to male riders only and lasts for a distance of 7 furlongs (or approximately 1.4 Kilometres).
The last race of the Bollinger sponsored Amateur series is to be held on Friday 24th September at Ascot, home to Royal Ascot, the highlight of many a racegoer’s sporting season.
